Executive Report: Knowing Our Numbers

Led by Dr. Emis Akbari & Kerry McCuaig, Knowing our Numbers was a vital initiative that captured the voices of nearly 6,000 early childhood education professionals across Ontario. These dedicated educators have shared their insights with passion—highlighting the state of their profession and the impact on the children in their care. Their perspectives are essential in shaping a stronger, more responsive early learning & child care system for families across the province.

Project Summary

This initiative was made possible through collaboration between children’s service managers, regional governments, and the College of Early Childhood Educators, who recognized the urgent need for a province-wide data collection system with a local lens. By informing decision-makers, strengthening cross-jurisdictional understanding, and fostering best practices, Knowing Our Numbers is helping pave the way for meaningful, systems-level change in child care.

The Knowing Our Numbers Executive Report, Regional Reports and a focus on Ontario's north, are now available for download. Better Together remains committed to supporting this collaborative effort and advancing bold solutions for early learning & child care across Canada.
