BT4EY 2026 Mentorship Project

As part of BT’s New Models work in 2026, municipal Service System Managers have come together to begin developing an implementation‑ready mentorship framework for the ECE workforce. The work is just beginning!

Project Summary

In 2026, twelve Service System Managers from 12 Ontario communities have come together to develop an implementation-ready, mentorship framework for the ECE workforce. Leveraging Innovation Fund resources from the Ministry of Education, communities expressed interest in building capacity for mentorship within the ECE workforce, exploring evaluation of promising practices, and developing a proposed framework to support program decisions. A complete draft of the proposed framework is available for download below.

The project will:

  • apply evidence‑informed, equity-embedded practices to guide the development of a mentorship framework and supporting resources

  • gather SSM mentorship platform experience at both the program and model level to inform framework design (Ex: qualitative feedback, participation patterns or implementation learnings.)

  • integrate change theory with the impact of mentorship strategies on workforce recruitment and retention in the early learning and child care (ELCC) sector, and anchor the purpose and rationale for mentorship within an Ontario policy and workforce context.

On May 14th 2026 BT4EY leaders presented work towards the BT4EY Mentorship Project as part of The OMSSA 2026 Spring Speakers Series. For access to the presentation slides from May 14th visit The OMSSA 2026 Spring Speakers Series project page.
